Two Premier League clubs, Arsenal and Everton, have reportedly turned down the opportunity to recruit Atletico Madrid winger Thomas Lemar this summer. The France international was put on the selling list after his unsatisfactory performance.
Thomas Lemar was linked with a move away from Atletico Madrid this summer after a disappointing season in the Spanish capital. However, after he agreed to a 50 per cent pay cut at Madrid, the France international has now extended his tenure until 2027.
According to the Daily Express, two Premier League clubs, Arsenal and Everton have been contacted regarding the transfer of the 26-year-old but neither has shown their interest. This is what reportedly made Lemar accept the terms put forward by Los Rojiblancos even though his long-term future is still uncertain under Diego Simeone.
The Gunners had previously tried to sign the winger from AS Monaco, just a few days before he decided to join Atletico in 2018 and their former manager, Arsene Wenger is said to have made a last-minute bid of £92 million.
Meanwhile the north London club have spent £120m on new signings including the signings of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Viera while the Toffees have yet to sign new players this summer.
Diego Simeone’s team has also just inaugurated the transfer of two players this summer: veteran midfielder, Axel Witsel and young striker, Samuel Lino.
