Virginie Viard has never been absent from carrying the legacy of Gabrielle Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld. The Chanel Cruise 2022/23 collection is no exception. This time she took her collection to Monte-Carlo in Monaco – Lagerfeld’s favorite spot which is also the location of her private villa.
Viard wants to invite guests to reminisce with memories of her past with the mentor at her summer house. The villa, named La Vigie, can even be seen from the Beach Hotel, where the show is taking place.
The two main attractions of Monte-Carlo: the casino and the Formula 1 circuit however give the Cruise 2022/23 collection a touch of fun. There are mechanic jumpsuits, biker jackets, T-shirts with pictures of racing cars, to bags in the form of racing helmets (there are real helmets too!). Sporty-style designs, such as shorts, jogger pants, tennis looks, and tennis racket bags might make us think about returning to the field. However, this time in a luxurious look.
Inspired By Metropolitan Beach Lifestyle
This collection, which is inspired by the metropolitan beach lifestyle, also doesn’t leave its iconic tweed behind. Because, don’t talk about Chanel if you don’t discuss the material characteristic of this house.
Tweed is presented in the form of a red and white jumpsuit and jacket. Also present in a black denim silhouette.
Don’t want a full-tweed? There are black jogger pants with metallic details. Some of the looks were styled with transparent black leggings as an illustration of the style of Caroline (a member of the Monégasque royal family and an old friend of Chanel) who was also Viard’s main inspiration.
For the choice of dresses, Chanel Cruise 2022/23 brings them into a series of chiffon dresses, asymmetrical skirts, maxi dresses, and shirt dresses. Complete with a line of accessories that again breathes Monte-Carlo. Just look at the bag shaped slot machine and poker chips. To black satin shoes inspired by shoes that are usually worn by Monte-Carlo ballet dancers.
