The finale of Jurassic series, Jurassic World Dominion released globally on June 10, 2022. Set four years after the destruction of the island from the previous sequel, the final sequel brings back the Jurassic Park cast members Sam Neil and Laura Dern.

When the trailer released few months before the original movie released, the fans were freaked out when they see the appearance of Dr. Grant and Dr. Sattler back to the show.

Adding up with the fascinating scene and new dinos on the trailer, it created a really high expectation of the show. Especially, when they know that it going to be the last one Jurassic sequel.

The Shocking Review Outcome

The movie review then come after the first week after the Jurassic World Dominion released. However, it came out that the reviews are considered pretty bad in the Jurassic’s box office history.

On the Rotten Tomatoes, Jurassic World Dominion only received 30 percent based on 292 reviews critics. This is considered as the lowest rating, if we compare with the previous sequel of Jurassic movie sequel.

Its predecessor, Fallen Kingdom has a rating of 47 percent while the first Jurassic World in 2015 received 71 percent rating.

The Wall Street Journal’s Kyle Smith wrote, “Colin Trevorrow has done something astonishing: In Jurassic World Dominion, he has made dinosaurs dull,” whilst Mashable’s Kristy Puchko said, “It’s clear: Colin Trevorrow is the worst thing that’s happened to dinosaurs since that asteroid knocked them all into the past tense.”

The Observer’s Oliver Jones added, “The film seems hellbent on demonstrating just how out of gas it is,” and The New York Post’s Johnny Oleksinski commented on how the film is “the heftiest in the 29-year-old series, but size doesn’t matter – Dominion is also the worst.” I think you’re getting the idea but I’ll let Rolling Stone’s David Fear summarize: “It’s not so much a movie as an extinction-level event for the franchise.”

Biggest Non-Superhero Release Since 2019 Revenue

jurassic world dominion review

After the three days released, Jurassic World Dominion makes $143.37M, making it the largest non-superhero profit since 2019.

Given the impressive hype, it clearly has the opposite side with it rating, 30 percent. Based on the record, the bad reviews during the early stage of movie release can heavily impact the income of the show itself.

Yet, thanks to the throwback factor, where they bring back the old characters in the movie. This is a prove that critical adulation isn’t the only way to ensure the success of the film.

Why Jurassic World Dominion Rated So Bad?

why jurassic world dominion rated so bad

So, here comes the biggest question, why the reviews are so bad? Is the Jurassic World Dominion that bad? Is it the storyline? The ending? The plot?

To sum up the whole negative comments on the internet, the critics were highlighting about the complicated plot, which features several different strands across multiple character groups.

This is particularly obvious as the film attempts to integrate the stories of Neill, Dern and Goldblum with Pratt and Dallas Howard. Leading to a confused and messy finale that leaves several questions unanswered.

Meanwhile, several other reviewers are highlighting that the franchise now feel labored and out of fresh ideas. Especially, when compared with the previous sequel, many critics feels that the trilogy Jurassic World has become directionless and too focused on the spectacle over the story.

Then, the other reviewers have issue with the quality and special effects.

The effects, which once again mix animatronics with computer graphics, are serviceable if unremarkable, lacking the awe (and indeed the heft) that made Spielberg’s original such a nail-biting game-changer.

Failing on this front is a genuine disappointment for film. This letdown, along with all the other issues, explains why Jurassic World Dominion has failed to impress the rating.
