In 2021, Money Heist has been recorded as the most view series in Netflix. Besides, this show also received a rating of 8.2/10 in IDMB, and 94% in Rotten Tomatoes. After the fifth season released in end of 2021, you might noticed that this show has been viral, where everyone posted this show on social medias and gave positive feedbacks.
In the beginning of the release, Money Heist was only released in Spain, where the show originated from. Back in 2017, it turned out that the show wasn’t attract any viewers until Netflix bought the show to be showed globally.
In the contrast of the high rating on the internet, there are bunch of parties that feel the show is extremely overrated and doesn’t deserve the hype.
Lockdown has made #MoneyHeist a “hit” I think its overrated and over hyped. Each part 1-4 drags too long to get to the point. Ciao Ciao Ciao pic.twitter.com/OccrPvCMdR

Money heist is the most over rated show on Netflix. Over hyped and void of any real substance.

With that to say, let’s breakdown the reasons why people are thinking this way:
Unrealistic Plot
Many people criticize that Money Heist‘s unrealistic plot in which the villain are extremely intelligence while the entire force of the country are completely dumb. In other words, it’s like too much biased towards the robbers.
Here are some of the examples:
- The professor can blackmail while police can’t.
- Mindless romance and infighting amongst the heist group, while the police is standing by outside doing nothing and just camping.
- The heist team can shot on point while the forces can’t.
- The professor can access anything anywhere he want while the police can’t.
- The citizens are supporting the robbery actions at the extreme level where they have a number of huge fans.
- The heist team can call in a surgeon whenever they want.
To summarize, the professor in the Money Heist is made as the super genius in which he can predict and plan against multiple possibilities that could happen. However, it appeared as everything always according to the plan, in which unrealistic.
If you have watched Prison Break, you can compare the overall strategy and genius level at much more realistic level.
Full of Gaps & Loopholes
During the first season, the show managed to create drama and excitement with its plots and a thrilling story, but as the show progresses, it lacks action. A few things are missing, and suddenly everyone starts to fall in love with a gang member, and they end up having sex in between the heist.
Here are some other gaps:
1. Officer Murrio changed her side after 5 minute talk from the professor.
2. Officer Angel understood everything with a minute talk with Officer Murrio.
3. In the urgent message of officer angel to inspector, he clearly mentioned that: ’Salva is criminal, he is the person behind all this,, don’t be with him’. Then, how could inspector’s mother call Salva and give him that message?
Unnecessary Subplot
The way the characters in Money Heist seem to hook up. It seems that the professor was teaching a seminar on relationships rather than preparing for a daring heist. The most absurd being the one between the professor and the cop who is trying to catch him.
Are People Just Following The Hype Without Really Understanding The Show?
If you’re still wondering why your social medias are full of people giving the great rating for Money Heist, seeing all the gaps and unrealistic plot above, here are the answer.
If you know about the bandwagon effect, it is a cognitive bias that causes people to think or act a certain way if they believe that others are doing the same. This also called as “follow the crowd” bias.
Were people just following the hype without understanding? Probably.
To conclude, if you’re looking for a drama and romance, this show might worth to watch. But if you’re expecting the mind blowing strategy, Money Heist is far from that category. There is no smart thing except the show is trying to show how “brilliant” the professor and comes up with everything.
